Uncharted 3 or Gears of War 3

Developers are preparing their titles for the Fall season. Two big titles featuring multiplayer always get a helping hand from the community in tuning their games before launch. After recently playing the multiplayer beta for PS3 exclusive Uncharted 3, and previewing the Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War 3, I am sure a lot of you are waiting for your favorite title. Both UC3 and GoW3 feature two modes such as the competitive the multiplayer and cooperative modes. So, there is a clean perspective between the two games of what makes them unique and interesting in their own regard.

Uncharted 3 is definitely a revolutionary multiplayer title. These days, developers have tried to add multiplayers into their single player titles just to extend the shelf life of their games. Usually the feature turned out to be boring and lifeless. When Naughty Dog announced that Uncharted 2 was going to have multiplayer, no one really had high expectation. With the feature turned out to be a success because the core gameplay of Uncharted 2's multiplayer combined all the essence of the single player experience without dulling the environmental interactivity and vertical gunplay.

Gears of War 3 is often compared to Uncharted multiplayer mode but it really doesn't make much sense; both games are very unique in their own way. Gears of War 3 has a grittier style, heavy combat, and chainsaw Lancers; I don't think anyone wants to see Nathan Drake with his limb on the ground. Previous Gears of Wars were criticized about lag online, but despite the lag, people are still actively playing the game online.

So which title are you more excited about? Maybe both?

What?! An Interactive PlayStation Doll In The Making?

I don't know what Sony is planning, but looking at the patent applications can be a terrific way of getting an early glimpse at what Sony is cooking up in their vast R&D laboratories, providing a first look at the Vita's back touch panel, and at the PlayStation Monitor. This time, the US Patent Office has revealed something incredibly different - a PlayStation controlled interactive toy.

Originally filed back in 2008, the recently published patent shows Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s aim to improve upon the ActiMate with better technology and integration with PlayStation products.

The interactive toy openly draws inspiration from the Microsoft ActiMate, which failed to sell when it was released back in 1997, with the patent mentioning the ActiMate's several times.

The wireless, USB and Ethernet ports also allow the toy to connect to “other peripheral devices in addition to game controllers”, the PlayStation Portable and the EyeToy. It also means “the interactive toy may be readily arranged to communicate with a PS3 via either a WiFi or Bluetooth wireless link”. When a PS3 is loaded with a DVD or Blu-Ray disk with support for the toy it will connect to the device and interact accordingly:

Are Sony and Nintendo in big trouble?

Are Sony and Nintendo in big trouble?
During an interview with MCV this week, Jeff Karp, boss of EA's casual division EA play, has warned Sony and Nintendo that the traditional portable gaming businesses are facing stiff competition from mobile phones and tablets.

He said: "I think it (PS Vita) looks like a great device, but the real challenge for all game handhelds is how they stack up against mobile and tablets. After all, how many devices do people want to carry?"

With smartphones and tablets continue to dominate; both Nintendo and Sony are feeling the pressure to fight for consumer’s money in the increasingly crowded handheld gaming space.

Nintendo is certainly feeling the heat in the handheld market. Having shifted only 700,000 3DS units in the company's first financial quarter, it opted to slash the portable's price only six months into its lifecycle, a move that puts PS Vita in a tough position, analysts said today.

Karp's comments are similar to those given by Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli earlier this month, when he said: "I love Sony as a company, and we have great relations with them, but the Vita is going to have a hard time against the next generation mobiles and all the tablets. The Vita is an absolutely fantastic platform but it will have a hard time, and it might be too late."

Samsung Is Making The PlayStation Vita CPU

Samsung will be manufacturing the CPU for the PlayStation Vita, according to a blurb that appeared at the website for electronics industry newspaper The Semiconductor Industry News. The CPU will make use of a 45 nanometer manufacturing process.

Vita is due for an international release somewhere before the end of 2011. The current popular speculation has the system launching first in Japan, where its predecessor, the PSP, enjoys continued success.
